Is is possible to rekindle things with an old flame?

I just thought I would get other people's perspective on this topic. I have an ex that I still have feelings for. It's been awhile since we broke up and he just recently asked me out for coffee. He lives out of state but was in town for a couple days. We caught up on things and he brought up a few memories we shared. It was very casual and relaxed but those feelings came up again, at least for me. I don't know if it was the same for him. We are both young and have alot of things to learn. My question is do you think it's possible to rekindle things after many years, after two people have grown and learned from past experiances? I am by no means waiting around for him and I understand that things ended for a reason, but do you think it's possible that things end because the time is not right? And that at some point in the future when you see that person again, things would work?
